The Total number of transplants for January through July 2010 is 16,779. THe number of donors, living and deceased, is 8,477 for that same period.

The number of people currently awaiting life-saving organs for transplant is 109,120 as of 10/15/2010.

Though the numbers are frightening in light of their monumental size, they are even more numbing when we acknowledge that each number represents a name, a face, and a personality - for each number represents a human life.
